With "Visitors from the Amalienburg" : Cupid, Psyche, and the three Guardians I evoked a space between suspended fragments of papeclothing rather than create one through watercolor fresco. In spite of their reputation as emblems of the Rococo era, a period often criticized for its opulence and frivolity and conventionally feminine qualities, I wanted to use Cupid and Psyche to express something deeper about love0inthe221st century and its need to be protected and guarded. I also wanted to express that the conventionally feminine (Rococemblems) could also be utilized in provocative ways. Hence, the usage of three guardians and lovers with blood vessels showing through their fragmentary clothing.
