My work, inspired by mystical writings, reveals a place of purification and healing… very watery and natural: with its inhabitants so vulnerable that they bear no skin. I see this place as one filled with intricate ceremony and ritual.
Many of my recent works are delicate watercolor paintings that reveal moments of internal transformation for these human beings. The viewer may watch changes from selfishness to selflessness, from despair to peace, from isolation to comfort and from regret to contentment occur.
Other works explore my own relationship to the transcendent realm through architectural structure, decorative pattern and a hybridized landscape.
To create a soft, delicate glow I employ translucent materials such as watercolor on layered tracing paper, creating a similar soft, fragile appearance. Small intimate works have lead me to make wax paintings, short films and larger human-scale drawing and painting installations, but I return again and again to drawing and the two-dimensional surface. It is essential.
